The Creation of Mokume-Gane
Japanese for wood grain metal
Layers of 22 karat gold and sterling silver have been
alternated
and
fused together to make a solid bar.

The Mokume bar is lengthened and twisted.

It is then forged and layers are carved away to expose the
pattern.

The variation in patterning is produced by
the twisting, forging and removal of metal.
This is done using the saw, drill, file or various punches, followed by the
flattening of the metal.
In some cases, the Mokume is etched, high polished, coloured or sand blasted to
enhance the wonderfully unique patterns.
